Breast augmentation through the belly button?

DR. Salzhauer: We’ve got another email from Mindy, and she’s down in the Keys, and she says she loves our show. We’re heard all the way up to Gainesville, and down to the Keys. And she said "My girlfriend just had breast augmentation through her belly button. Is that normal?" Well, it’s not a question of normal or abnormal. [With] breast augmentation, you can put implants through the belly button. Is it worth it? It’s debatable. My opinion, and I’m in the camp that says it’s not worth the extra risk of complications and the extra over all level of imprecision that’s involved in putting in implants through the belly button versus putting them in the traditional way through the nipple or with an incision under the arm, or an incision underneath the fold. First of all, when you put an implant in through the belly button, you cannot put in silicone implants, you can only put in saline implants, and they have to be rolled up like a cigar, and put into this very long tube that goes from your belly button to underneath the muscle where your breasts are. Now once you roll it into that cigar, and poke into that tube and get it in position, and fill it up with a syringe and plastic tubing, you then poke it into place with these long sticks to get it in position properly. I can do a much better job with my fingers. When they invent sticks that have sensation at the tip, I’d like to use sticks to put implants in. For now, I prefer to use my own fingers to position them. Jeannine: The old way. Dr. Salzhauer: The old way to position them properly. And this is an operation that you only want to have done once or twice.
