Stretch Marks, Tummy Tucks, and Cellulite.

Dr. Michael Salzhauer: We have an email from Linda, Jeannine?

Jeannine Morrissette: Yes, and she wants to know if there’s anything that she can do regarding her stretch marks.

Dr. Michael Salzhauer: Okay.

Jeannine Morrissette: A question that I get a lot.

Dr. Michael Salzhauer: Yeah. I mean, stretch marks are tricky. If they’re in the lower abdomen, on the front part of your tummy, they can be excised with a tummy tuck and that really is the best way to address those stretch marks. If they’re, you know, unfortunately, on your upper/outer hips or your thighs, there really is no good treatment for stretch marks these days. And, you know, I would caution my listeners not to waste their money on any kind of potion or powder or cream or laser beam or any other technology that’s touted out there to treat stretch marks because they just don’t work.

Jeannine Morrissette: She also wants to know about cellulite.

Dr. Michael Salzhauer: Okay. Cellulite is another– cellulite and stretch marks are two…

Jeannine Morrissette: Yes.

Dr. Michael Salzhauer: Mesotherapy. Okay. Again, you know, there are a lot of treatments out there that I would not put my full face in, that I feel have less than a sound, scientific basis and Mesotherapy is one of them. You know, I’ve went to courses, you know, I’ve seen the “world experts” talk about it. I’ve seen their before and after pictures. They’re less than believable, to say the least. I am highly skeptical of the ability of Mesotherapy to do anything and, you know, I would love if it worked because I would eagerly incorporate it into my practice because there are a lot of small areas that fat could be taken out of that liposuction might be a little bit of overkill and I’d love to say that it works but, you know, this is just one plastic surgeon’s opinion but I don’t think Mesotherapy works. Jeannine had it done and it didn’t work for her.

Jeannine Morrissette: Not at all.

Dr. Michael Salzhauer: And I don’t think that, you know, I would save my money and do liposuction…

Jeannine Morrissette: Yes, and it was very expensive.

Dr. Michael Salzhauer: …or do something that’s more proven, that has a scientific, more sound scientific basis and just because a doctor is administering it or an M.D. is selling it doesn’t necessarily mean it works.

Jeannine Morrissette: And I did have it by an M.D. and it did not– no results at all and it was very expensive.

Dr. Michael Salzhauer: Yeah. You know, and, again, you know, my name is Michael Salzhauer. I’m a board certified plastic surgeon. The name of the practice is Bal Harbor Plastic Surgery Associates. You know, Miami is a great city for plastic surgery. There are so many great, board certified plastic surgeons in this town. But, again, there are a lot of people who aren’t board certified and a lot of doctors out there that, you know, as insurance reimbursements become harder and harder to get, are going into or branching off into these things like Mesotherapy, like cellulite treatments, and other cosmetic areas that they really don’t have the proper training or the medical background that’s necessary to evaluate whether a treatment is really effective or not. So I would really caution our listeners to stick with what’s tried and true, what’s scientifically sound and not waste their money. It really, you know, sometimes breaks my heart to hear about some women who put their faith in things that don’t work. Again, the practice is Bal Harbor Plastic Surgery Associates. The office number is 305-861-8266. Our toll-free from anywhere, 1-888-BAL-BODY, B-A-L-B-O-D-Y. Next week, we’re going to have some patients on before their surgeries, after their surgeries, talking about the decision-making process for them, how they feel after their surgeries, and we’re really excited to have this show. Thank you so much for listening.
