Botox for men

Mike: Hey, Doctor, how are you? Great show. Very refreshing. I had a question. My wife has been doing Botox in the face area around her eyes for quite some time.

Dr. Michael Salzhauer: How does she like it?

Mike: She absolutely loves it. It does a great job for her.

Dr. Michael Salzhauer: Yeah, it can be addictive, yeah.

Mike: It's a little addictive and I think I'm addicted now and I want to try to have some lines on my forehead and she makes fun of me because I'm a grown man. I wanted to know if it's safe and if a man can do it.

Dr. Michael Salzhauer: Sure. Well, male plastic surgery is the fastest growing segment of the plastic surgery consumer market. Women always want to look their best but so do men. As we get older we do have the tools to keep us looking young and refreshed. I've had plastic surgery myself twice, so I can also speak from personal experience. Even for myself it was a little bit embarrassing, a little bit uncomfortable to come in to begin with but I'm really happy that I did, because once you start noticing things you don't like and you fix it, you get a great boon of confidence. Now, as far as Botox for men is, I would say at least 30% of my clients that get Botox are men, and it works great for those lines across the forehead, the lines in between the eyes that we call glabellar furrows, the ones that make you look angry all the time sometimes. You might come into work or come home and your wife or your kids might notice that you look angry or that you look mad when you're not really. It's just that as you get older, the skin on your forehead starts to sag and it makes those furrows, those lines between your eyes. Botox is an absolutely fabulous way to treat that. The other lines it's great for are around the eyes, the crows feet that you get when you smile, and of course we all live down here in Florida in the sun, and we're squinting all the time and so we get those little lines that radiate out from the sides of the eyes, and that does make us look older and a little Botox there decreases them significantly. Like I said, a good percentage of my patients that get Botox are men and increasingly so.
